I was searching through my recipe files and stumbled upon this recipe for barbeque sauce and meatballs. My mother gave this to me many years ago when I was a newlywed. I was not a cook and needed all the help I could get! Fortunately, it was easy and fairly quick (the hardest part was chopping up the onion). After completing the dish, my new husband in particular really liked it. This recipe was a keeper–definitely!
Easy BBQ Sauce
Makes approximately 1 3/4 cups
- 2 Tablespoons Worchestershire sauce
- 3 Tablespoons Vinegar - cider or distilled
- 1/2 Cup Onions - chopped
- 1/2 Cup Water
- 1 Cup Catsup
- 1/2 Cup Sugar
- Put all ingredients into a small (1 1/2 quart) sauce pan. Turn burner on high until ingredients get hot and just start to bubble. Then turn burner to a much lower setting and let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes or so with a lid covering about 3/4 of the pan. Steam will escape, but don’t allow too much evaporation to take place.

Meatballs
Makes about thirty (30) 1 1/4 inch Meatballs
- 1 pound Ground beef
- 1/2 Cup Milk
- 3/4 Cup Saltine cracker crumbs - about 20 crackers
- 1/4 Cup Onion
- 1 Tablespoon Oil
- Sauté onion in oil until tender.
- Crush saltine crackers until they are finely crushed. I use a rolling pin.
- Put onion, cracker crumbs, ground beef, and milk in a bowl and mix. Shape into balls.
- Using the skillet that the onion was sautéed in, brown meatballs on all sides.
- Preheat oven to 350º.
- Unless your skillet has an oven-proof handle, transfer the meatballs into a casserole or oven proof dish.
- Pour BBQ sauce over the meatballs.
- Bake 25 - 30 minutes.

I like to make the BBQ sauce first. While it’s simmering, I work on the meatballs.
Enjoy!!
