Chocolate CookiesChocolate Cookies = Yum

I wanted a new cookie recipe. It seemed like I had been making the same old cookies forever. While they were good and eaten without complaint, something new and different was definitely in order. And they had to be chocolate as well as easy to make.

As a guideline for my experiment, I decided to use the recipe on the back of Nestlé’s Chocolate Morsels since it’s one of my favorite cookie recipes. My first addition, I knew, would be cocoa powder to give the cookie a nice brown hue; however, it still needed something to really bring out the chocolate flavor. That’s when I found the milk chocolate bars. I figured that not only would one of these enhance things nicely, but I could cut back a little on the sugar since the bars themselves contain plenty.

Now I was ready to make the first trial cookies using the newly enhanced recipe. Everything went together as expected. The only thing I didn’t like doing was grating the candy bar — but then, I don’t like to grate cheese, either. Fortunately, it didn’t take very long nor was it that difficult. Plus the expectation of the end result made it all seem worthwhile.

I have served these cookies to several people and am amazed how many times I have been asked for the recipe. Perhaps they really are as good as I thought!

Chocolate Lovers Chocolate Cookies
Yields approximately 3 1/2 dozen cookies.

  • 1 Cup Butter, softened2 Cups Flour
  • 2/3 Cup White sugar1/2 Cup Cocoa powder
  • 2/3 Cup Brown sugar1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1-12 oz pkg. Nestlé’s Chocolate Morsels
  • 4 oz Milk Chocolate candy bar - grated
  • 1/2 Cup Pecans - chopped

  • In a small bowl combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl combine softened butter, white and brown sugars, until creamy. Add vanilla and eggs. Beat well. Gradually add flour mixture and stir together. Batter will be thick.
  • Add chocolate morsels, nuts, and grated chocolate bar. Stir.
  • Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake in preheated 350º oven for 10 minutes.
  • Cool for a minute or two before removing from cookie sheet onto wire rack.

I have used Nestlé’s Chocolate Swirl Morsels in place of regular chocolate morsels, which are delicious and add a hint of white against the dark color of chocolate. I also sometimes make a bigger cookie by using a soup spoon instead of a teaspoon for dropping the batter. When this takes place, there aren’t as many cookies–only more bites per cookie! Enjoy!!!

Sounds tasty. Are we talking any specific brand of milk chocolate bar? What did you use?
